The first day of the month of Vaisakh (April 13, 1

The first day of the month of Vaisakh (April 13, 14 or 15), marks the start of Hindu New Year. Variously called Baisakhi or Vaisakhi (UP, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab), Puthandu (Tamil Nadu), Vishu (Kerala), Mahabishuva Sankranti (Odisha), Rongali Bihu (Assam) and Poila Boishakh (Bengal), it is also a celebration of spring harvest. April is the time for new beginnings and fresh harvest in India.
In Kerala, they observe the ritual of ‘Vishukanni’, in which seasonal fruits, vegetables, yellow flowers (Konna, Indian laburnum), rice, gold, clothes, coins and holy texts are arranged on a platter in front of the deity and is the first sight of people when they wake up.
Here is a beautiful Vishukani decor by @s.a.m.a.g.n.i . With spring blossoms woven into a beautiful garland, the ixora details adorning the head, the rice kolam, the tenderness that Krishna is and all the harvest offerings, it is indeed an ethereal sight.

Kanya Pujan is a rite that honours young girl children as manifestations of different Goddesses. While the rituals differ and is known by different names across India, the inherent spirit of these rites is to celebrate and worship the divine feminine in the form of young girls. And there are any number of stories that depict how the Goddess took a young girl’s form to fight the demons. Ashtami and Navami(8th and 9th day) of Chaitra Navratri are also days of Kanya Pujan. Goddess Durga in her various forms are worshipped during this time. And young girls are adorned, offered prayers and and made other offerings just like a deity at home or temple. This Navratri is not as widely celebrated as the Sharad Navratri that falls in the month of October.
